Pit Bulls Frowned On
64Abused and Neglected
Unfortunately the APBT (American Pit Bull Terrier) is one of the most commonly frowned upon dog breed in the United States. Is this because the breed is bad? No, in fact it is because the breed was abused and neglected and that's what the media shows people. They don't show the good the dog does or the millions that have never bit anybody in their life.
The Good in the Breed
The APBT is used for a wide variety of things in society. From Police dog to search and rescue dog for victims missing in avalanches. You never see the good things they do on television or on the internet. The APBT guess is a bad breed of dog if you don't like to be licked to death, or if you don't like cuddling buddies on the couch. These dogs do great everywhere they go but they are put down by stereotypes. Nobody says hey did you see that Pit Bull playing with those kids over there. They going to talk about the one that attacked a kid because they seen it on the new. These dogs devotion and loyalty make them one of the best dogs out there. Well, unless you want a guard dog, because they love people so much they'd rather lick the person to death than fight them.
The Bad in the Media
The media on the television and on the Internet never show the APBTs that are doing good out there for society. They rely on the bad that they do. The breeds bad name feeds this because people are more likely to click on and article that says "Little Boy Killed by Pit Bull" rather than one that says "Little Boy Saved by Pit Bull". This goes to show that there are a mass amount of ignorant people out there because they won't do a little research to find out more about the breed and put their prejudices aside, and give the breed a second chance. There are also many different breeds that are mistaken by the media for the APBT when an attack happens, so the APBT gets blamed for something another breed did. Commonly mistaken breeds are The Staffordshire Terrier, The American Staffordshire Terrier, The Bull Terrier, and The American Bulldog.
Don't Make them Suffer
Every dog out there deserves a second chance regardless of the tags attached to it's breeds name. Out of all the breeds though the APBT right now is the most affected by this. What a lot of people don't know about though is the fact that before the APBT was label "a dangerous dog" the Rottweiler, Doberman, and German Shepard were all label the "dangerous dogs" at one point in time. You have to remember that the bad marks on the breeds name has nothing to do with the individual dogs. They all deserve a chance just like all people deserve a chance.
Make those Who make them suffer Pay!
Whenever a dog bites somebody they shouldn't immediantly say it was the dogs fault. They should actually go right to the caretaker of the dog or dig more info on why it bit somebody. For example, if a dog bites somebody because the kicked it in the head the dog shouldn't be punished for defending itself. You'd do the same thing if somebody attacked you. Or another example, if a dog bit someone because the owner trained it to do so, yes the dog is now dangerous but it is not the breeds fault. The owner of the dog should be punished for abuse or neglect. It's sad that very few people look into the facts about it. The laws on animal abuse and neglect should also be stricter. Once you've messed up once you should never be allowed a pet again because no animal deserves that.

Amen to this! Pits are beautiful, strong and loyal dogs, my favorite breed. It should be evident to anyone intelligent - it is never the animal, it is the owner!!! BTW - the one in your picture is gorgeous. Yours?
